Heartbreak comes when you realize
that your words were misconstrued.
An aching in the chest
it gives your soul the illusion
that the thickness of your ribcage
is one of unfathomable depth.
You touch your heart
and wonder at the possibility
of this sudden appearance of a black hole
so close to home
In so intimate
And once full a cavity.
When the arrows of your meaning
have been found to miss their mark.
Their points ringing against
indifference, naivety or fear,
Heartache radiates from somewhere deep,
a wounding star that shines darkness
and causes one to choke on pain
And yet, no fatality occurs.
Lungs fill and hearts beat
And the calming waters
of breath and time
wash through on their simple tides.
Eroding hardened banks,
filling the vastness of a hole
that for one moment
seemed an impossibility to fill.
